A Bacolod Must: Pepe’s

Sorrento is this happening block of restaurants and bar in Lacson Street that caught our attention from the get-go. For one, this seems to be the place to be happy and wild–kidding. There was no visible parking area, but when we asked the security guard where we could park, he pointed to the sidewalk. Yes, we parked on the road. Well, it’s actually the loading/unloading area. Oh well, the building guard gave us permission.

We went up to the second floor where Pepe’s is, a bar and restaurant that the boyfriend’s sister really wanted us to try. She’s been here before and she swore we’ll love the Beef Salpicao. So of course, we ordered that.

Although there weren’t enough pieces to go around, we loved it! It was really really tender, juicy and flavorful. The sauce was so good too. It made for a great pseudo-gravy! ๐Ÿ˜€ I checked out other blogs and was surprised to read about how they found the meat of Pepe’s Beef Salpicao to be quite tough. Maybe we got lucky! ๐Ÿ™‚

Another winning dish was this sumptuous Pesto-Crusted Chicken Breast. I’ve always found pesto dishes to be difficult because I’ve chanced upon a lot of restaurants who just can’t get this flavor right. That’s not the case here, folks.

We loved this dish, nailing the flavor, the cooking time of the chicken breast and the presentation too.I cannot wait to go back to Bacolod just for this dish alone! Or better yet, I cannot bring Pepe’s to Manila!

I normally shy away from the infamous dynamite dish. I don’t like chewing on a whole pepper, you see. But since they wanted to try the Bacolod version of this classic, I donned my foodventurousย hat and munched on one dynamite stick. If nobody had told me that it was a dynamite, I would have easily assumed it as a cheese stick because the ones I normally see have the ย stem protruding from one end.

Anyway, it wasn’t too bad. The ones I’ve had here in Manila are hotter than this. I actually couldn’t make out if there was a whole pepper in it, perhaps because of the generous serving of cheese in there (yay!). ๐Ÿ˜€

We also had salad, pizza, chicken fingers and (crab?) soup. We were swamped with so much food that we forgot we had a camera in our bags. Haha. We actually finished everything on our table. Having two men with huge appetites saved the night, actually. ๐Ÿ™‚
