A Taste of Persia Grill

The Persia Grill menu

Persia Grill has a notorious reputation in our office. Whenever there are talks of where we could have lunch, pitching in Persia Grill would always spur the same sentiment from the folks who have already been there–the food is nice but there’s one caveat: you’ll leave the restaurant smelling like one of the dishes. Fearing the worst, I avoided Persia Grill for the longest time. Until today, that is.

The boyfriend and some friends were meeting up for lunch at Persia Grill in Valero Street. I’m just a couple of buildings away so I tagged along. When I walked up to the door, I was kind of anxious, expecting the waft of Persian spices to throw me off and attack my olfactory senses. Surprisingly, it didn’t smell. Well, for me that is. I wouldn’t know if some folks are really sensitive to certain scents.

First things first, the place is cramped. It was also a little hot inside. I don’t think they have enough air conditioners installed to keep the area cool during busy hours. Well, let’s move on. 🙂

I always hate choosing a dish to order, especially at Persia Grill, for some reason. Everything on their plate looked and sounded the same to me. Ugh. Anyway, prices are okay. I spotted a dish with one skewer of chicken/beef/whatever for PHp120. Other dishes go for Php350.Although I wonder how one could last the whole afternoon with just several pieces of meat. 😛

Chelo Kebab Tikka (Php199)

I ended up picking Chelo Kebab Tikka (Php199)–a safe dish with two skewers of chicken breast. I think we waited for 30 minutes for our dishes to come in and when it did, I quickly consumed everything on my plate. Drat, there goes my no-rice diet! 😀

Setting aside the fact that it ruined my diet, I liked it. My Chelo Kebab Tikka is a spicier version of the Chelo Kebab Morg, which is priced similarly as well. I didn’t finish the two skewers of chicken, which was served sans the actual skewers. The ever-so-reliable boyfriend, cleaned up my plate. 🙂

The boyfriend and Ken, patiently waiting for their food

Next time, I’ll have to alert my manager that I’ll be extending my one-hour lunch break because you can’t possibly get in, eat and get out of Persia Grill in one hour. Although I hope it’s just at lunch time that this happens. You see, our orders arrived after reminding the waiters of our orders twice. Twice. Service is important for diners like me. I don’t like waiting for food, especially when it’s just skewered meat, two (barely) roasted tomatoes and an eggplant + yogurt dip.

I also ordered a simple raspberry iced tea (Php55) but it was only after I reminded them that I was still missing my drink did they tell me that it wasn’t available. I was given red iced tea in a completely different glass from everyone else in the restaurant some 7 minutes later. Not that I’m picky or maarte, okay? 🙂

Besides that, one of our friend’s dish arrived later than everyone else’s and when it did, he was missing two char-roasted tomatoes. It was served a couple of minutes later. Face-palm moment, that was. 😀

P.S. Forgive my photos for I didn’t have my camera with me then. Photos taken via my ever-reliable Nokia E72.
