Spicy Crabs and Chili Prawns at Temple Street, Hong Kong

Now I’m finally posting something I can’t forget during our night at Temple Street in HongKong. ^_^ One of the things that people should really do in Temple Street is to dine at this famous seafood restaurant called Tong Tai.

One would not be led by signs in finding the said food establishments but by the huge number of people who are dining on the street under a huge makeshift tent. I’ve never seen so many foreigners packed in just one food establishment.

We ordered some of Tong Tai’s house specialties: the Deep Fried Spicy Crabs and Garlic Chili Prawns. For a moment back then I thought we have to wait for a very long time before our order was served. It was great that the staff worked fast and they even showed us our order before they were cooked. Everything was just fresh at Tong Tai.

Just when the dishes were served, we were given our plates, chopsticks and clean hot towels as well as. It has always been my preference to have soda on the side when I eat crabs…hehehe.

And then the dishes were finally served. My first Impression on the Deep Fried Spicy Crab was that it reminded me of Blackbeard Seafood Island’s Crab Marites. The only difference I noticed was that the dish wasn’t oily and the garlic bits and spices were really sticked to the shell of the crab.

The crab was really delicious and perfect. I don’t know what’s with HongKong crabs but I can just say that the crab I ate had a shell reminiscent of the hardness and texture of a baby crab here in the Philippines. It was like a baby crab trapped in a large crab’s body…I didn’t even had a hard time cracking every part and the crabmeat was just juicy. It was really something to go back for in HongKong.

The Garlic Chili Prawns on the other hand didn’t offer anything new to my taste buds, but I was fascinated at how huge the prawns were. I can just describe those prawns in the mega-sized ‘suahe’ species here in the country. Just one piece of prawn could have been enough to make a large-sized hakaw dimsum ball…Yes, it was that big.

Two thumbs up for both meals. Me and my mom really enjoyed eating them during our night market walk at Temple Street. We will certainly come back at Temple Street to eat more yummy dishes like these. The dishes did not come out cheap tho… it did cost us 35USD. Hmm..must be the peak season.
